    Suggestions for Picking Your Materials:
    1. When picking out your beads have in mind whether you would like a pendant or if you would like the necklace to have the same pattern throughout.
    2. If you would like a pendant, select the pendant piece first. This is most often the largest piece of your necklace and will be the main focus.
    3. After you have picked a centerpiece, pick a strand of beads that compliment the focal bead.
    4. After you have picked the strand of complimentary beads, select a few individual beads to add to the design.
    5. At this point you are ready to add any silver or gold spacers for accents.
    6. After you have picked all of the beads, you will be ready to pick out your clasp. You can pick from magnetic, lobster, hook and eye, spring clasp, toggle, and “s” hook. If you are unsure which would be best for your beads just ask.

San Diego is known as one of the prime tourist destinations of the entire world. What is only known to the beading and gemstone community, is that San Diego is growing to be one of the primary beading/gemstone destinations of the world.

For years the Gem Faire has been traveling to the Scottish Rite Center and Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego. Also, our world famous Del Mar Fair is always host to an interesting show of rare gems. This is no surprise considering the GIA World Headquarters (Gemological Institue of America) is located just north of San Diego, in Carlsbad, CA.

Home to more than 10 bead stores, including the Shepherdess (world famous for their classes), San Diego is also a tourist attraction among the bead communities around the US. Now San Diego is also home to one of the largest bead stores in the United States.

South Sun Products, which has blown up in popularity in the past few years, has the largest combined collection of beads and silver jewelry in the United States. Voted best bead store in San Diego, two years in a row, this fantastic bead store has helped San Diego become one of the beading capitals of the world. For San Diego beads, South Sun is where it's at.

If you're a beader and you're thinking of taking a vacation- think about San Diego. With it's collection of great stores and gemstone resources, you will have no problem supplying all the inspiration you will acquire while making jewelry along our beautiful coastline.
